The short version

Macrobell is a nutrition, workout and step tracker published by Proffitt Investment Holdings LLC, a California limited liability company (“we”, “us”). The app has no ads and no tracking. You sign in with an email address and password, and what you log is saved to your account so it follows you to any phone. We don’t sell your information, share it for advertising, or use your health data for anything except running the app for you.

What the app saves to your account

  • Your email address and a hashed form of your password. We can’t see the password itself.
  • Your profile: a name if you add one, sex, birth year, height, weight, body fat, body measurements, goals and preferences.
  • Your food diary, water, notes, workouts, sets, exercise notes, form check scores and weigh-ins.
  • Your step counts and active calories, and the sleep and resting heart rate used for your readiness score, if you connect them.
  • Your squads. Other members of a squad you join see the display name you choose and your weekly percentages, nothing else.
  • Whether you have Macrobell Plus, and how many AI requests you used today (to apply the daily limit).

This is stored with Supabase, our database provider, in the United States, and sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Each account can only read its own data. Your data is not end-to-end encrypted: it is stored in a form our systems can read so that it can sync between your phones. A working copy is also kept on your phone so the app works offline.

What stays on your phone

  • Your progress photos. Macrobell never uploads them unless you ask the AI to compare one (see below).
  • Any AI provider key or connection you add yourself.

When information goes to other companies

  • AI features (Plus). When you use the AI photo calorie counter, menu snap, fridge-to-meal, the AI form score or “Describe my build”, the photo, video frames or text you choose, any note you add, and for menus and fridges your remaining calories and macros for the day, are sent through our server to Anthropic (the Claude AI models) to produce the answer. Your name, email and diary are not sent. Macrobell does not keep the photo or frames; the AI provider handles them under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train its models on them. If you connect your own AI provider instead, the same items go to that provider under its own policy.
  • Food search and barcodes. What you type into food search goes to Open Food Facts and USDA FoodData Central, and scanned barcodes go to Open Food Facts, to look up foods. Camera images used to scan barcodes stay on your phone.
  • Subscriptions. Google Play or the App Store handles payment for Plus. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. We never see your card details.
  • Account emails. Sign-up confirmation and password reset emails are sent through Resend.
  • Exercise demo photos load from a public content network (jsDelivr), which sees your IP address like any website. “Watch a video” opens a YouTube search in your browser.

These companies act as our service providers, or provide a service you chose to use. None of them receive your profile or diary.

Health and fitness data

If you allow it, Macrobell reads steps, active calories, sleep and resting heart rate from Health Connect on Android, or steps from your phone’s motion sensor on iPhone. It only reads, never writes. This data and the other health information you enter are used only to run the app’s features for you. They are never used for advertising, never sold and never shared with data brokers. You can disconnect in the Steps screen or remove the permission in your phone settings at any time.

Permissions the app asks for

  • Camera and microphone: to scan barcodes, photograph meals, menus, your fridge and progress photos, and record a form check video. Sound recorded with a video is never sent.
  • Photos and videos: only if you pick an existing video for a form check.
  • Physical activity, motion or Health Connect: for steps, active calories, sleep and resting heart rate.
  • Notifications: only for lock-screen set logging.

Each one is optional. The rest of the app works without it.

This website

  • Waitlist. If you join the waitlist we store your email, your phone type, the page you signed up on and the link or campaign that brought you (for example a gym flyer). We use it only to email you about the Macrobell launch and its launch offer. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or email support@macrobellfitness.com and we’ll remove you. We delete the list once launch emails are done, or within 12 months.
  • Hosting and analytics. The site is hosted on Netlify, which processes your IP address to serve pages and block attacks. We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without tracking you across sites.
  • Ad measurement. Today the site loads no advertising cookies or tags. If we add ad measurement tags from Meta, TikTok or Google, they will only load after you accept them on a cookie banner, and this section will be updated first.

How long we keep it

Account data is kept while you have an account. When you delete your account, everything saved in it is deleted from our server right away, and from backups within 30 days. AI usage counts are kept for up to 90 days.

Deleting your account

In the app: More › Account › Delete my account. Or see how to delete your account if you no longer have the app.

Your California privacy rights

If you live in California you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to get a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising from the app. On this website, ad measurement tags only load with your consent and we honor Global Privacy Control. To make a request, email support@macrobellfitness.com from the address on your account. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. People in other places can make the same requests and we will honor them.

Children

Macrobell is not intended for children under 13 and the app stops anyone who enters a birth year under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, email support@macrobellfitness.com and we will delete it.

Security

We use encrypted connections, per-account access rules on our database and limited staff access. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information we will tell you as the law requires.

Not medical advice

Macrobell gives estimates for general fitness. It is not a medical device and does not give medical advice.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If a change is significant we will also tell you in the app.
